Simon J. Peabody Indigent Care Grant

A local community leader, Simon J. Peabody, left his legacy to the community in many ways.  One long term way was to leave a fund intrusted to the Community Foundation that provides money each year for the cause he held dear.  Mr. Peabody chose to leave a gift that woud support Indigent Care in Voluisa County.  Though this gift was given in the early part of the 1900's, because it was endowed it continues to give back today.

The Community Foundation of East Central Florida is honored to carry out his wishes each year.

Two local groups received grants of $2,000 in November 2009 to support their good works providing indigent care.

1.   WIT-Nest, Inc.  provides transitional housing and assistance for single homeless women at their location in Daytona Beach.    Present at the November 16th board meeting to receive the grant check were:  Inez stafford, Patricia Cadette and Brenda Courtney.

2.   Family Promise of Volusia County provides housing for homeless families through a network of local churches that provide living space and resources for families on a weekly basis.  Each family receives counseling and asssitance with job search and more permanent housing.    Present at the November board meeting to receive the grant check were:  Robert Wiley, Joseph Andreano and Audrey King.
